It’s the non-romantic comedy of the year.
Autism is no laughing matter, but laugh is exactly what Brisbane cabaret performer Oliver Hetherington-Page wants audiences to do.
The No Bang Theory is ready to charm your pants off with stories, show tunes and a series of sparkly jackets.
It’s heartbreaking and hilarious, but always an honest look at life on the autism spectrum.
If life serves you lemons, make cabaret. He’s been excluded and bullied and called all the ableist slurs in the book, but he’s survived and ready to set the record straight.
Join us as Matilda award-winning performer Oliver Hetherington-Page debunks the myths of ‘cute’ autism perpetuated through popular culture favourites such as The Big Bang Theory.
And don’t be fooled by the title, The No Bang Theory is packed with more banging show tunes than a night of karaoke. Plus, sex talk. And dodgy dancing.
Oliver is “single and circulating” and invites you to join the wild ride!
Too much sex talk from a self-confessed 26-year-old virgin.
Oliver Hetherington-Page was literally named after a character in a movie musical.
At least that is his story and he is sticking to it. As such he believes he was destined to go through life asking for more, more recognition for the arts, more opportunities for emerging performers, more respect for musical theatre, more shows that aren’t Cats, more understanding for people such on the autism spectrum (which, in turn, will all hopefully lead to more paycheques for himself).
The Tinder date without the messy bits.
Oliver Hetherington-Page hates Sheldon Cooper.
Perhaps he protests too much because why else would his first one-man cabaret be so heavily obsessed with the lead character of The Big Bang Theory. Simple.
It’s time to set the record straight and what better way than with show tunes and stories?
Oliver is an artist on the autism spectrum and he’s constantly fighting against the stereotypes popular culture tells the world about the condition. Authentic representation of autism stories on stage is the best way to defeat the Sheldon Cooper syndrome, according to Oliver.
Sheldon is a science nerd. Oliver is a theatre kid. Sheldon is obsessed with trains. Oliver is hyper-fixated on musicals. Sheldon has a girlfriend. Oliver is desperately waiting that Big Bang.
‘The No Bang Theory’ is a musical journey from dating disasters to diagnosis through #actuallyautistic eyes.
He's been everywhere
The No Bang Theory had its world premiere as part of the Undercover Artists Festival on September 16, 2021.
After this humble beginning in Brisbane, the show went about conquering the world*.
Audiences around the world* have been captivated, from *Melbourne to Adelaide, Darwin to the Gold Coast, Bundaberg and back to Brisbane. Some say it’s a “small world”, but they’re just petty.
